Since 2002 Fire & Ink, Incorporated has strengthened, encouraged and inspired lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same-gender-loving writers (LGBTQ/SGL) of African descent. Our most recent festival, Fire & Ink III: Cotillion (http://2009.fireandink.org), is a testament to that fact.
Fire & Ink’s pledge drive will allow us to keep doing the important work of shaping the future of LGBTQ/SGL writers of African descent. In order to do this work, it is extremely helpful to have a steady stream of income. If you pledge a specific amount over a period of time, we can count on having the means to:
- Plan and execute future public programming, including the upcoming 2012 writers festival;
- Provide scholarships and fellowships for writers;
- Support forums and workshops for writers around the country.
Every bit helps. If 100 people pledged $10 per month (or 50 people pledged $25 or $50 per month), we’d be well on our way to reaching our goals. Larger amounts are welcome, too. With your help, we’d be able to pay travel costs for a writer to provde a workshop at a Black Pride; make our web site more interactive; provide outreach to college students or people living outside big cities, people hungry for a reading and writing community; and begin a book drive for our sisters and brothers in Jamaica and South Africa.
